A New Year!

I always love the start of a new year and all the new hopes and dreams it brings with it ... Dreams of being more organised, running more, losing 5 kilos, being a better cook, better with the kids, and the list goes on.

But this year is quite special for me because I resigned from my job as a court reporter to concentrate on my business, Wild Blossoms. Even though for the past eight years court reporting has only been a part-time job for me, it has been a big part of my life. I've met some very special people while working as a court reporter, but I have been wanting to do something different for a long time.

Before I started designing and sewing children's clothes I spent years dreaming up our house renovation and came up with some great ideas. I was quite obsessed with it really and everywhere I went I would be studying designs and interiors and spent hours browsing my huge collection of home decorating magazines! We are really happy with the way the renovation turned out and I guess it is a bit of a dream come true for me to have brought that vision to reality.

Once I felt that we had completed all the decorating (within reason - always more to do) I was keen to move on to something new, but I just wasn't sure what it was. I had an attempt at cupcake decorating and decided it was something I would do just for parties etc, nothing more.
After seeing a beautiful christening dress my cousin made for her daughter I was inspired to start sewing again and it has just grown from there. My sewing room is now overflowing with beautiful fabrics and laces.

I feel very lucky that my very special husband, Steve, has given me the chance to follow my dream. Steve would probably say I was obsessed with my sewing and maybe I am a little, but it is so nice to have found something I love so much. I also love being around for my children Lucy and Leo and being free for them each afternoon and on the school holidays.

Running a small business is completely new to me and I am learning a lot on the way, but it's a great feeling to be pushing myself in a new direction, to have a dream and to bring it to life. I have lots of new plans for this year and look forward to putting them into action.

Dreaming of Summer ...

I love this time of the year when winter is on its way out and there are hints of warmer days ahead . The days are a little longer and a little warmer and the shops are filling with summer
clothes.
...

We recently had some photos taken of the children by Tamarajayne Photography. I have always wanted some beach photos and these were just perfect. It was such a fun afternoon, as you can see by the photos. I will include a few of my favourites as they remind me of summer.
...

Wild Blossoms will be adding new ruffle tops, shorts and kaftans to the collection all in time for summer.

10 May 2011

It's been an exciting week for me with the launch of the Wild Blossoms website.

A big thank-you to Anna from Design with Style who designed the website. Anna was able to capture the vision I had and transform it into a beautiful website. She has also designed my logo, business cards and swing tags. Anna worked with Green Label Design who did a great job developing the site.

The website features some beautiful, colourful photos by Naomi from
Naomi V Photography, an amazing photographer; photos on railway track by Linda Pasfield, and photos of frilly baby pants by me - can you tell? We did have a few attempts to have professional photos taken of toddlers modelling an assortment of frilly pants, and we did manage to get some great photos of red and white polka dot pants, but that was it, my adorable model was running off and no amount of bribery or begging would persuade her to put on another pair. So I took some close-up backyard shots myself, but I have not given up; one day you will look at my website and see some really cute photos of babies/toddlers in frilly pants.

I am currently working on some dresses for babies which will look beautiful with the frilly pants. I'm also working on some skirts. My daughter just loves skirts and thought I should make some, so hopefully there will be some pretty skirts, maybe even ruffle skirts, before too long. Hope to have some photos up to show you soon.
